You know, Prince has never been about the record sales. Yeah he wants to make that money (why else would he get Columbia to distribute this record), but at the same time he just wants people to hear his music. He did the same thing 3 years ago with Musicology; he gave the CD away free to concert-goers and it still did ok on the charts. Do I think Planet Earth will sell? Honestly, no. But only because we are in a new generation where his music doesn't quite fit in with the "Pop, Lock and Drop It" and "Rock Yo Hips" that kids are listening to today. That and the fact that the marketing on this CD is next to nill. Maybe it's because I'm out of country, but I haven't heard anything about this release except for the news that Prince is giving it away in England. Something tells me Columbia did something to piss Prince off and this is just another way for Prince to stick it to the man.

Yeah, I just heard about it. Sent you an email too. I think his music is pretty good, but do you think that his releasing the cd for free might be more of a response to dismal CD sells, as a whole?
