Alright ya’ll we got some mad updates comin’ to you right now. I still haven’t sorted through all the American Gangster remixes I’ve received in the past few days, but I got a good handful right here. But before I get started, I just wanted to give you all an update on 9th Wonder’s The Black American Gangster. See my boy MIDIMarc and 9th go back a ways and MIDI got to catch up with 9th over the holidays. So he did us a favor and asked 9th what was up with the remix album. Apparently the project is being picked up by LRG for distribution as promotional only and as of right now there is no release date and no rush to complete the project. So there you have it. Who knows when we’ll get to hear this one. I’m sure 9th will be busy promoting The Wonder Years, which comes out at the end of the month, so I’m not holding my breath for The Black American Gangster. All I know is whenever we get it, I’m sure it’ll be a treat!
This first remix album comes from Ravage who hails from Long Island, NY. It’s called American Monsta. This one right here is very different! I don’t mean that in a bad way, but this one may not be for everyone. Dude definitely has talent though; don’t front. To me it almost sounds like Ravage’s production style is heavily inspired by the RZA. Am I wrong?
At any rate, give this one a listen. Ravage is definitely a monster on the boards, even if it’s not much my style.
Yo, this next one right here is NICE! My man Stevebelieve has been hounding me the last couple of days to get his mixtape up and I’m glad I finally got a chance to listen to it. Steve’s gimmick for his remix album is that he has no gimmicks! It’s called The American Dream: No Gimmicks Just Raw. Unfortunately he didn’t have anyone to put together an album cover for him. I told him, “no worries; I’ll put it up anyway.” Maybe our resident graphic expert Krome can help Steve out? Sorry I keep looking to you Krome, but your skills are just tight. Anyway, check this one out and let Steve know what you think right here.Edit 1/7: Check the new classic cover designed by our resident graphic artist Krome. Here’s another one without an album cover and too bad too, cuz I can envision this one myself. Don’t laugh when you read this concept… the cats brought heat! It’s called Animated Gangster and was done by Make Moves Productions from Toledo, Ohio. They used samples from cartoons, t.v. shows, and movies such as; Batman, The Justice League cartoon, The Flintstones, Pink Panther, and Fat Albert. Yo, def check this one out! It’s crazy how they chopped the samples! I remember hearing someone joke a few weeks ago that someone would end up doing a concept album like this, but I’m glad these cats did it and did it right. Yo, “Roc Boys” is crazy over the Flintstones! Krome you GOT to do a cover for this!Download Animated Gangster:

I want to apologize to Keenan for sittin’ on this one. He emailed me back at the beginning of the week and somehow this one just got lost in all my email (I get 100s a day). I still haven’t even gotten to listen to this one yet, but I wanted to post it up here tonight. This is Brazilian Gangster, produced by Keenan out of Athens, Georgia.I just got the opportunity to preview a few of the beats on Keenan’s MySpace and this one is interesting how he used Brazilian samples. I’m not gonna give my opinion on it yet until I give it a full listen. What do you all think of this one?Download Brazilian GangsterKeenan’s Myspace Page
