It’s awesome that people have been inspired to dig after seeing some of the sample collections posted on this site. The web site’s Hip Hop Is Read & Lyrics To Go have collectively teamed up to give us the original samples used for Mos Def’s classic debut Black On Both Sides.
This set looks juicy with the diversity of samples used on the album. Black on Both Sides is classic and should be in every hip hop head’s collection. Released on October 12, 1999, Black On Both Sides was intended as a return to the roots of hip hop composed with blends of socio-political rhymes with jazz and other unusual sources of samples. Production on the album was done mostly by Mos Def, with the help from 88 Keys, Ayatollah, and DJ Premier among others.
