In remembrance of James Dewitt Yancey (aka Jay Dee, aka J Dill) who passed away on this day in 2006, I thought it would be appropriate to compile the samples used for his 2006 release, Donuts. Released on February 7, 2007 on Dilla’s 32nd birthday and only 3 days before his death, Donuts will be remembered as some of Jay Dee’s best work.
Make sure you check out my Producer’s Spotlight on J Dilla to read more about this amazing producer and hear some of my favorite tracks produced by him.
J Dilla will always be remembered and his beats will forever live on. May his soul rest in peace.

What up Kev? Glad to see you tackle this project. I’m a Eastside Detroit native so this one is special to me. Jay Dee came into the game with something different. I’m not sure you can really ‘classify’ his sound like a ’smoothed out’ or ‘boom bap’ or ‘dusty samplers’ because at different times he was elements of all that. Peep, Dilla sound influenced ATCQ and De La to incorporate him into what they were doing at a time when they were damn near at the top of the mountain! You didn’t really see to many outside producers working big chunks of ‘Native Tongue’ projects (also Busta Rhymes) because frankly, they didn’t need anyone else. The internuts kinda went crazy with his shit after death but dude was the truth and his music will live on. Thanks Kev!!!
no doubt
Jay dee was genious, and this album will live forever!!
R.I.P. Dilla
R.I.P. DILLA, one of the greatest.

Big ups on this DILLA post. He was truly one of the great producers and will forever be missed.
Kev, this is one of the few posts dedicated to J Dilla I’ve seen on ALL the blogs I peep on the regular.
That’s definitely a good look for you, big up.
He damn near reinvented the wheel when it came to hip-hop production.
It’s more than just a screen-printed slogan on a t-shirt when it comes to what I think of Jay Dee; I religiously rock to his music frequently and constantly.
Nothing Like This (© from Ruff Draft), Indeed!

Donuts Are Forever
Hey Kev,
There are some broken links, I have all the music if you would like me to upload it. I love your blog, I am a new producer and you blogs the best. Thanks. Let me know if you need any music,Put it this way, I hung out in Blue Notes in Sunny Isle FL, for 2 years straight. I am a huge collector. Thanks for al your generosity with the free downloads. You the best. Ali Jordana M aka SoulQueen
mayne tha link is broken could ya please upload it again mayne i really need them samples
Link reupped!
can you do a re-up with the Dilla Donuts samples? the link is broken. thanks homie
It’s down again already? I just reupped this on the 9th. Someone must be reporting it.
It’s not even that. I was looking at your past link, and the file name was the artist and album. that’s a dead giveaway for those hosting sites because they scan for illegal content all the time. you just need to make a more conspicuous file name and it should stay up. try megaupload too..
Aight JP…. I’ll try your approach and reup it.
Link reupped. We’ll see how long this one lasts…
haha, nice name! thanks for the re up man
YO kev Can WE gET fantastic vol. 2 or hi-teknology the 1st one not the those two bullshit joints on babygrande
The Factory sample is by Fred Weinberg - Animosity [but it doesnt say Fred Weinberg; it says “The Weinberg Method”.

Fred Weinberg - Animosity [off the "The Weinberg Method of Non-Synthetic Electronic Rock] = J Dilla - The Factory.
