College Dropout: Original Samples

College Dropout: Original Samples

Since I finished up the Late Registration samples last week, it was only fit that I do the same for Kanye West’s debut album, College Dropout. Now I know you’re saying, “Hasn’t somebody done these before?” Surprisingly, no. Just like the Late Registration samples, nobody has ever completed the collection (to my knowledge). Which is unbelievable, because there are only 12 listed samples that Kanye used for this classic album. This set is nowhere as spectacular as the Late Registration sample collection, but there are some nice gems on here. Thanks to Krome, who brought my vision of the album cover to light!

  1. “I Just Wanna Stop” by Jimmy Castor Bunch
    • Sampled in “We Don’t Care”
    • Produced by Kanye West
  2. “Mystery of Iniquity” by Lauryn Hill
    • Interpolated in “All Falls Down”
    • Produced by Kanye West
  3. “Distant Lover” by Marvin Gaye
    • Sampled in “Spaceship”
    • Produced by Kanye West
  4. “Walk With Me” by the Arc Choir
    • Sampled in “Jesus Walks”
    • Produced by Kanye West
  5. “(Don’t Worry) If There’s A Hell Below, We’re All Going To Go” by Curtis Mayfeild
    • Sampled in “Jesus Walks”
    • Produced by Kanye West
  6. “Maybe It’s The Power of Love” by Blackjack
    • Sampled in “Never Let Me Down”
    • Produced by Kanye West
  7. “A House Is Not A Home” by Luther Vandross
    • Sampled in “Slow Jams”
    • Produced by Kanye West
  8. “Precious, Precious” by Jackie Moore
    • Sampled in “Breathe In, Breathe Out”
    • Produced by Kanye West
  9. “Spirit In The Dark” by Aretha Franklin

  10. “Peace and Love: Movement IV” by Mandrill

  12. “Fonky Thang” by The Dells

Most big producers that sample have people that recommend resords to sample, so don’t be amazed.

I was trying to finish this one. Couldn’t find the Arc Choir and The Dells songs. Set is missing one “Precious, Precious” by Jackie Moore for “Breathe In, Breathe Out”
