Here we are… Week 5 of the Remix Contest. I can tell this has been a lot of fun for everyone and we’re definitely seeing a lot of new talent on the table. I appreciate everyone who has participated in both the remixing and the voting. Congratulations to Johnny Street, who won for a second week in a row with his version of Ja Rule’s “New York”. Before I get into this week’s track, let’s recap the details of the contest.
So here’s the deal… for the next 12 weeks, we’re gonna hold a weekly contest… 12 weeks/12 mixes. The way it’ll work is every Saturday night I will provide the song to be remixed for the week. There will be 2 links… the acapella and the song in it’s original version (for reference). You will have one week to complete your remix. Entries will be taken until 11:59pm EST the following Saturday. Then on Sunday morning we’ll have a new poll on the blog for people to vote for their favorite mix. Voting will take place for one week while the next mix is underway. At the end of the 12 weeks, I’ll put together a compilation album of all the winners for each week with a kick ass cover designed by Krome. Sound cool? I know some people are gonna be like, “what’s the prize?”. The prize is inclusion on the compilation album and exposure on this site. I got nothing else to offer. Actually I do have something to offer this week. Chris from BarrysTickets.com was kind enough to donate some gift certificates to give away to you guys. So the winner for Week 5 will win a $25 gift cerficate which can be used towards tickets purchased through BarrysTickets.com. They have all your tickets from sporting events to concerts.
To submit your entry: Upload your remix in mp3 format to one of your favorite file sharing locations (ie, Rapidshare, MediaFire, MegaUpload, ZShare, etc) and leave a comment in this post with your name and your link. Some readers have requested the contestants use ZShare. So if you can, upload to ZShare. DO NOT email me any links… they will be ignored. This process is to make it easier for me so I don’t have to post everyone’s links. The production is open ended (for now), meaning there are no stipulations. Original productions are highly encouraged, but blends will be accepted as well.
Alright, looks like we had some technical difficulties with the Mobb Deep track. The track for this week was originally supposed to be Mobb Deep’s “Shook Ones Pt. II” but turns out the acapella was incomplete. We’re gonna switch gears for now until I can find a complete acapella. So, let’s go to Brooklyn this week with two of Brooklyn’s finest…. Talib Kweli and Jean Grae. One of my favorite cuts off of Talib Kweli’s new album Ear Drum is the will.i.am produced “Say Something”. Let’s see what you can do with this. Below are the tracks to download and good luck!
The cut-off to submit your remix is Saturday, March 1, 2008 @ 11:59pm EST.

Wow, we ain’t even halfway into the week and we got 5 contenders already! Great work guys!!
Am I not included in the contest? If I am, there would be six contenders.
LOL… yeah, I just can’t count!
Ok, good. I was worried that I wouldn’t be let in, because I haven’t been in the other ones.
Nah man…. EVERYONE’s invited!
DAMN! Everyone’s bringing heat this round! That Knecko remix is bananas though!!
I never thougth my remix was that bad, it looks that nobody even hear it…LOL Well Im listening to all of them and let me tell you Knecko is kicking it so far.. in my opinion!
Maybe my style is too latin!!!
Nah Madman… you doin your thang! I’m diggin’ your NYC Burn remix more though. I like the beat to your Say Something remix, but it gets a little monotonous after a while (just my opinion). I would have maybe switched up the beat when Jean Grae came in with a hard beat or something. But hey, I’m not a beatmaker!
LOL, aigth!!! nice apreciation, thats All I needed to hear TNKS kevin..
Ok here we go with my first submission. I am still new to this so please give feedback…thanks.

Yeah, i am dogging the jabooky mix…I thought it was impossible to pull off a “cross over’ style anymore, but he nailed it.
