This Is Hip Hop Remix Contest: Week 8

Alright ya’ll, we’re down to the last few weeks with the contest and each week is getting hotter and hotter. Congratulations to Blinky, who won week 5 with his remix to the Beastie Boys’ “Sure Shot”. The polls are up now for last week’s classic “Shook Ones” and now this week, we got another classic to remix. Before we get to the track though, let’s run back over the preliminaries.

Here’s the deal… for the next 12 weeks, we’re gonna hold a weekly contest… 12 weeks/12 mixes. The way it’ll work is every Saturday night I will provide the song to be remixed for the week. There will be 2 links… the acapella and the song in it’s original version (for reference). You will have one week to complete your remix. Entries will be taken until 11:59pm EST the following Saturday. Then on Sunday morning we’ll have a new poll on the blog for people to vote for their favorite mix. Voting will take place for one week while the next mix is underway. At the end of the 12 weeks, I’ll put together a compilation album of all the winners for each week with a kick ass cover designed by Krome. Sound cool? I know some people are gonna be like, “what’s the prize?”. The prize is inclusion on the compilation album and exposure on this site. I got nothing else to offer. I got a couple more gift certificates left to offer up. Chris from BarrysTickets.com was kind enough to donate some gift certificates to give away to you guys. So the winner for Week 7 will win a $25 gift cerficate which can be used towards tickets purchased through BarrysTickets.com. They have all your tickets from sporting events to concerts.

To submit your entry: Upload your remix in mp3 format to one of your favorite file sharing locations (ie, Rapidshare, MediaFire, MegaUpload, ZShare, etc) and leave a comment in this post with your name and your link. Some readers have requested the contestants use ZShare. So if you can, upload to ZShare. DO NOT email me any links… they will be ignored. This process is to make it easier for me so I don’t have to post everyone’s links. The production is open ended (for now), meaning there are no stipulations. Original productions are highly encouraged, but blends will be accepted as well.

I told you all each week was getting hotter and hotter. Well, what would a New York remix contest be without Nas‘ classic track “New York State of Mind“? We’re remixing Part 2 off Nas’ 1999 album I Am. Originally produced by the one and only DJ Premier, “New York State of Mind” has seen at least 3 versions as far as I know. The second version is the one acapella I could get my hands on, but be creative… do whatever you want with it! Below are the tracks to download and good luck!
