I have been working on this set since I dropped the first Murs/9th Wonder set a couple of months ago, but I had a hard time finding most of the samples to complete it. Last night, This Is Hip Hop reader, Jeff, hit me up with the full set. Much thanks Jeff!
It’s great to see the work that we’ve done here on this site has inspired others to dig and appreciate the art of sampling and other musical genres that hip hop is based off of. To briefly address to naysayers who have wasted space in my CBox recently , these sample compilations are not intended to give beatmakers a recipe book for making beats nor are they compiled to call out producers’ methods or secrets on how they make beats. The sole intention of compiling these sample sets is to give the average hip hop listener a new angle on the production of an already classic album, to give props to the producers who used those samples to make those hot beats. These sample sets shine a whole new light to those who never would have given other genres and music from other periods the time of day and they give the true hip hop fan greater appreciation for their favorite hip hop albums. That’s all we’re doing here…. this is hip hop, baby! Let’s leave the negativity behind.
Back to this sample set… Murs hooked up with 9th Wonder a second time for the release of Murray’s Revenge on March 21, 2006. Much like their previous release, Murs 3:16 The 9th Edition, this album contains 10 tracks, all produced by 9th Wonder, and runs under 40 minutes long. A simple formula, but it works oh so well. Can’t wait for their next collaboration, rumored to be out sometime this year! Thanks again to Jeff for hookin’ this up! If anyone else out there would like to release a compilation, sample set, or anything else through the site, feel free to drop me a line.
