Believe it or not, This Is Hip Hop is about to turn one year old next month. The site came online in June of last year, with my first post on June 22, 2007. To commemorate, I thought it was time to upgrade the look. The old design was great, but with the abundance of content, we needed more real estate; which is why I chose a 3-column design. The last 48 hours have been a little bumpy as we transitioned to the new look, but I think we have things under control now. The idea was to go for something a little cleaner and more professional and allow for more content, while keeping navigation simple and not getting things too cluttered. What do you think?
I know a lot of the readers here are new and can’t believe that we’ve been around for a year. To give you a little history, the site started as a personal venture (hence the url kevinnottingham.com/myblog). I blogged about music, amongst other things, but the blog didn’t take shape until around September when I decided to concentrate on hip hop. Still in its infant stage, the site didn’t really take off until the end of last year when we became the unofficial source of the American Gangster remixes. Since then, we’ve grown considerably with the inclusion of our first remix contest and the sample compilations that you all have come to love and the launch of our community forum.
Rolling into our second year, we plan to expand even more. Starting June 1st we will kick off our second remix contest, with a new musical theme, new rules, and a brand new judges panel. We have also officially added a few contributors to the team. Thomas has been helping out on the sample front for a few months now and is more or less my right hand man in helping with the site. Carsten will be checking in from time to time with his European Artist Spotlights. He’s already got three articles under his belt, but is now able to dedicate more time. We’re also in the process of bringing on two new album reviewers, Sean Deez and SmokeYYY (previously of thatrealish.com). With the new team, we should be able to offer you more and better content. If anyone else is interested in writing for the site (part-time or full-time), hit me up and we’ll see where you can fit on the team! As I’ve said before, this site would not be what it is today without the readers’ (you all) contributions. I thank you all for hanging out here, providing comments, and helping support hip hop.

what? the site’s only one year old? I wasn’t aware… man, it’s so solid and full of good things I thought it had mad history…
Congratulations on your anniversary, and I appreciate your work (as well as the work of others) in providing the sample collections.
Yo whut up Kev. Congrats on the anniversary ( pop bottles son pop bottles ).
The new look threw me off for a second but i’m digging it hard now. Plus the stupid hard Kanye sample set let the kid know “aint a damn thing changed” word to nice & smooth.
Keep it up kid.
Peace
