Friends of Distinction: “And I Love Him”
From the album Friends of Distinction (1969)
Nas: “Hope (OG Version feat Chrisette Michele)”
Unreleased cut from Hip-Hop Is Dead (2006)
Produced by L.E.S.
Rick Ross: “Maybach Music (feat Jay-Z)”
From the album Trilla (2008)
Produced by J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League
I love this freakin’ sample! It sucks that this version of “Hope” was never released. I think they had a problem with sample clearance at the time. Not sure how Rick Ross was able to put it out this year. The two beats are very similar, but there are a couple of distinctions. Which do you think is better?
To throw a wrench in this game, here’s a bonus track. I had to throw this out there, cuz I think this beat is better than the other two. One of my first selections for the best American Gangster remixes…
Jay-Z: “Pray (Beirut Remix)”
From the album Beirut Gangster (2007)
Produced by Beirut

Well this one was easy for me.Between L.E.S & J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League,i’ll go with J.L. because their track was smoother, more melodic and the beat was better.I guess Cadallacs are not really in now,so they called it Maybach music. That was definitely on some Player of the year type ish.And I will agree that the Beirut joint was hotter because of the beat, plus more of the song was utilized and sampled beautifully.
definitely feeling Beirut’s remix…Ross went off over the JL beat…nice fam
I like the Beirut joint, L.E.S. had the rawness, but the JL was smooth and beutiful.
I’m cool with all three, but ya’ll need to check out Young Chris “Never Die”. He rips that beat apart!!!!
yeah i was bout to say, you forgot the young chris song; justice league killed that beat tho, none of the others are close
and i had the best pray remix! j/k
that NAS shit is raw. its on some real g shit. i like maybach music too but hope is betta.
nas version is mad sick! anyone got this on mp3?
