Not only was judging week 3 tough, but we had some difficulties with our judge’s panel. Most everyone had to drop out cuz of other obligations. But that’s not gonna stop us! For the rest of the 12 weeks your judges will be Thomas and I and one guest judge. I got a few people that I know that should be able to step in and help out. This week was a little last minute, so the guest judge for week 3 is…. YOU! That’s right, we took the reader poll into consideration when determining the finally winner of week 3. Well, let’s get on with it!
Thomas:

4. One Mic: Like the vocal sample weaving in and out of the track. Drums and bass all knock. Was able to keep the vibe of the original in tact.
3. Manz: Like the loop and how he “dirty’s” the track up a little.
2. Dutchmaster: Takes a different approach to the track…makes it a little more up tempo, but it works.
1. G.C.: Track is hot. The drums knock and break downs throughout the track are hot.

Kevin:It ultimately came down to two remixes for me and I had a really hard time deciding. Those two were G.C. and Garcia’s Grooves. I loved both tracks for different reasons. G.C., those drums just knock hard man! Excellent beat. And I absolutely love the beat switches. I’m a huge fan of beat switches in a track, if done right. It really helps switch up the momentum in the track. The Dre beat dropped in there was just ingenious. Keep bringing it!
Garcia’s Grooves I felt captured the essence of 1990’s Common Sense with his jazzy laid back track. The track was just perfect to me. I could listen to it over and over again.
Other remixes I was feeling… Isbjerg (nice use of sample), Tommylux (nice too), Poe Mack (love the beat), RNP (interesting use of samples), DJ Atomik (jazzy!), Dutchmaster (beat is crazy! overpowers the vocals though. Would love to hear this with someone else over it), S.2ITA (nice and smooth!), Kemo, Tokyo Cigar,and Manz… man too many that I loved!
