Girls, Guys, and Hip Hop

What’s up fam? I got to say thank you first of all, to Kevin Nottingham for allowing me to kick this shit. Since joining the crew, I’ve been providing a few producer compilations for your listening pleasure, as well as bashing your favorite rapper during my reviews. Here, is more or less a ranting section for you, me, and anyone else who wants to sound off on a variety of topics. We all have those days when we just notice some things that urk us, I decided to take Kev up on that and I wanted to sound off. With that said, I will keep things relevant to hip hop, no doubt.

  1. My first issue on Deez Steez comes courtesy of the ladies, not the bitchez, the young sistas, not the bitchez… I’m from Toronto, Canada as I hope all of you know from my bio and if you should know one thing about my city, it is loaded with some of the most beautiful women in the world. Downtown Toronto is a busy business district with plenty of chauvinistic male drivers driving as fast as molasses to check out the girls out. Moreover, they whistle, cat-call, bark, shout, stare, and can even get to a point of verbally abusing these women. Don’t get me wrong, no one loves a beautiful woman more than your man Deez, but I’d like to think my respect for women is fairly high. If you’ve ever worked with like, contractors, construction workers, movers or factory workers, you know what I’m talking about. I was never that guy to do that and neither should you. Women really don’t have it easy in this world; pregnancy and menstruation should really be all they need, but this too?! I watched a documentary called “Beyond Beats and Rhymes” by Byron Hurt (watch it), and about 60% of the film was about the degradation of females in the hip hop culture. Recognize, I’m NOT talking about everyone, but, you know who you are. People with a sister, a niece, or even a really close friend could probably feel from where I’m coming from a little bit more because you know you wouldn’t want that stuff happening to them.
  2. In regards to above, fellas, I know a lot of ya’ll are like a squirrel trying to get a nut, I hear that, but there are ways to go about this. Don’t underestimate the good guy, the romantic, the poet, these guys still succeed in society!!! True, some females will fall for the all mighty dollars, the bling, the rapper, but if I’ve learned one lesson in all of my relationships (and at my young age, I can say I’ve been through a lot) is that the most genuine person will truly get the female that is best suited for him. I can’t stand these 25 year old mall rats (who’s a mall rat at 25?!?!) who hit on girls still in high school with the classic line “Damn shawty, can I get yo numba.” Step your game up fellas, you know you got it.
  3. Man, what the fuck is wrong with hip hop these days. Sorry, I should say YouTube Hip Hop. These dudes, some of them get deals strictly based off of a catchy slogan. I saw a video the other day for a hip hop campaign against tight clothes! What the fuck is wrong with tight clothes? Maybe if some of these guys were dressed in a more classy, tip top fashion, I’d take them more seriously. Notice your favorite rappers: Common, Mos Def, Talib, Kanye, Jay-z, Andre 3000…I’m sorry to make this last rant about clothing, but that shit was hilarious. But in other news, the Nas just recently dropped, so PLEASE buy it. I do NOT condone downloading and I know Kevin doesn’t as well. Buy it, support good hip hop even if the album is slightly above par because Nasir Jones will always come correct.

I hear you on those 25 year old mall rats, deez. Here in Australia we have this whole week when all the youngsters go to party on the gold coast (sort of the equivalent to spring break - we call it “schoolies”). It is so sad when I see some 25+ dudes trying to pick up girls that two years ago were watching the pony club or trying to pick fights with 16 year olds and feel good about themselves.
Aaah, it feels good to have little bitch sometimes, doesn’t it?

P.S. Tight pants? I think it all depends how tight your pants are. But the question remains: Why the fuck would they go and setup a campaign against it. I guess it takes all kinds! One Love from Down Under.

Always interesting stuff from you Sean.

    1. With a little girl and a wife….my outlook on this topic has changed over the last eight years…also I’m a lot older (and hopefully wiser).

    2. When I read this two people popped into my head. They are “Mall Rats” at the age of 30+. Those guys have no shame in their game whatsoever. Been chasing the youngin’s since our high school days.

    3. Not really with the tight clothes…but whatever the individual likes. I’m not so much worried about what the “rapper” has on I just want them to talk about something. Put some thought into their rhymes. Everyone can make an album in their head like Jay-Z. Write something down PLEASE.
I download, but if I like it I go out and buy it. With the gas station, grocery store, and utilities taking 80% of my check I got to make sure ish is up to par. I’ve been lucky. If all else fails I have been upgrading some of my older stuff from tape’s to CD’s. I’m still between CD’s and Mp3 files.

    Enough rambling.

“driving as fast as molasses” …
Deez you kill me. Good call on the content of this article. You would think it would grab the attention of the female audience but based on the response it warms my heart to see much positive male feedback. Throughout various parts of the U.S. Torontonian women have a reputation for being quote on quote “the baddest females ever” (which apparently is translated into a big compliment), and unfortunately they have some of the most disrespectful male counterparts pursuing them. Here’s a kind suggestion (warning) to all male readers in the Toronto area: want to keep your hunnies in the T. Dot? Respect is just a minimum. Next time you see a hot girl walking by… take a moment to remember that she is someones daughter, mother, sister and moreover… a human being.
Well… you said it all Deez… Mall rats… gross. Pregnancy and menstration… boooooo! Hate for tight clothes? = Big insecurities. (or a lack of maturity)

    Keep doing your thing!
    Love & best wishes!
