Internal Affairs: Original Samples

Internal Affairs: Original Samples

We got a ton more sample sets to put up, but can’t get em out fast enough!  Here’s a small set to hold you all over.  Internal Affairs was the 1999 solo debut from Pharoahe Monch.  Incredible album, but because of the illegal use of the “Godzilla Theme Song” as a sample in “Simon Says”, the album has ceased production.  Not sure if you can find it in stores, but I’m sure you can get it online somewhere.  Here’s what we dug up for the rest of the samples…

  1. “Blues and The Abstract Truth” by Oliver Nelson
    • From the album More Blues ad the Abstract Truth (1964)
    • Sampled in “Intro”
    • Produced by DJ Scratch
  2. “Aftermath” by Quincy Jones
    • From the album Slender Thread Soundtrack (1966)
    • Sampled in “Behind Closed Doors”
    • Produced by Pharoahe Monch
  3. “Til the Cops Come Knockin” by Maxwell
    • From the album Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite (1996)
    • Sampled in “Queens”
    • Produced by Pharoahe Monch
  4. “Candy Man” by Quincy Jones
    • From the album $ soundtrack (1972)
    • Sampled in “Rape”
    • Produced by Pharoahe Monch
  5. “Godzilla Theme” by Akira Ifukube
    • From the album Godzilla vs. Megaguirus soundtrack
    • Sampled in “Simon Says” and “Simon Says (Remix)”
    • Produced by Pharoahe Monch
  6. “The Trap” by Jerry Goldsmith
    • From the album The Last Run (1971)
    • Sampled in “No Mercy”
    • Produced by The Alchemist
  7. “Espani Cani” by Sid Bass *
    • From the album Moog Espana (1972)
    • Sampled in “The Next Shit”
    • Produced by Pharoahe Monch & Lee Stone
  8. “Mi Cosa” by Wes Montgomery
    • From the album Bumpin’ (1975)
    • Sampled in “The Light”
    • Produced by Diamond D
  9. “Summer Wishes, Winter Dreams” by George Benson
    • From the album Bad Benson (1974)
    • Sampled in “The Light”
    • Produced by Diamond D
  10. “Cristo Redentor” by Harvey Mandel
    • From the album Cristo Redentor (1968)
    • Sampled in “The Truth”
    • Produced by Diamond D

Thanks for that one Big Shak. Couldn’t find that one any place.

I’ve seen this cd available at the mom and pop type stores and seen one recently at Best Buy that they probably forgot to take off of the shelf.

This album was overlooked because of the great album released by Mos Def the same year…within weeks of each other if I remember correctly.

I did miss adding vocal samples to the “Intro”. D & D All Star’s “1, 2 Pass It” and P.E.’s “Welcome to the Terrordome”.

Realized that when listening to the cd last night. Those should be easy to find. D & D can be found in Hip Hop Is Read’s Reasonable Doubt set.
