Boog Brown celebrates the release of her full length project The Brown Study Remixes by offering, till new years, a free download of the 14KT produced track “Growth.” Here’s what the track means to the producer:

“Growth” (formerly “Carpe Diem“) is one my favorite joints off of Boog Brown‘s “Brown Study” album. It was really a special moment for me to have the honor to remix it. I thought about back in 05′ when me and Boog used to hit up this spot called “The Firefly” for a night called “Elevation”. We were always freestyling by the piano in the corner. I already knew she was a jewel with the poetry, but this was the early beginnings of me being exposed to her rhyme skills. Not too long afterwards she would come through my studio to record songs. Fast forward to now, she’s established herself as viable, beautiful, prolific, and a powerful lyricist with an ILL voice as a weapon. When I was in the lab, I just wanted to compliment her voice and create a beat that had the classic feeling that the lyrics gave me. Simple, yet optimistic type vibe, ya dig? The irony is I’m just honored because I got to see and be a part of the process of Boog’s “growth” through it all.”

One of the best producers in the game right now, 14KT, drops his latest instrumental project A Friendly Game Of KT. Here’s what the Athletic Mic League member had to say about this release:

This project just created itself. One day, I woke up and decided I wanted to make a project. I took a handful of arbitrary beats and put them in a folder. My most FAVORITE thing to do as an artist is sequence and mix together music for albums. It’s kind of like a game of Pick Up Sticks. I had a can of “beats” with different colors, poured them over a table top, picked them up randomly, and whatever “sticks” I ended picking up, I took and made a project with them. I didn’t have a title for it, so I sent the beats to my A-Side family, in a email with the subject, “It’s time to play a friendly game of name KT’s album!” Being the geniuses that they are (Shouts to Mayer Hawthorne!), they named the project off the email subject. Perfect. About 2 weeks after I got the title, the project was turned in. Simple! Enjoy.

At A3C, I got a chance to speak with 14KT and he promised that some Athletic Mic League material from the vaults would be released very soon. Well just a few weeks later, that promise has been fulfilled with AML’s Giants Of The Jungle. The project features 13 tracks from the collective of Buff1, 14KT, Tres Styles, Vaughan T, Vital, Grand Champ & DJ Haircut aka Mayer Hawthorne. Athletic Mic League & Lab Tech producer 14KT returns with his latest instrumental project, the aptly titled 14KillaTape. Here’s some background on this release from the winner of last year’s Red Bull Beat Battle:

Straight up…this is that raw ish. Slaps. Face Twisters. Hard beats. All these joints were made in a span of 08’-11’. It all started when I first got into the Red Bull Beat Battle in Detroit end of 08’. I was never known as a beat battle type producer and believe it or not, I actually don’t like battling with beats. However, that was my first time ever battling with beats. Knowing I was battling, I definitely found myself in a different frame of mind when I sat down to make joints in the lab. While in the lab, my motivation was making beats that I would have HATED if my opponent played them against me. I took a collection of beats where I had that mind state and mixed them with other beats I made during that time period. I’m setting this Killer Tape off with the first joint I ever made in a beat battle mind state and the rest is history. I got a new nickname under my belt now, 14KillaTape…haha – 14KT

Did this beat in like 07′. I sent this beat to Danny Brown around maybe 08′-09′. Never heard back from him about the beat until recently when this song popped out on his “The Hybrid (Deluxe)” release on itunes. Word! He wrote a joint about Cartier Sunglasses and the danger of wearing them. In Detroit, Cartier glasses are a big fashion item, many buy them trying to stunt,but if you Google “boy killed over Cartier glasses”,you would think it would stop you from buying them. Listen up..
